Hey everybody, it's me, Carly!

You need to know the real story about our walks. Mom didn't quite get it right yesterday, so I stole the computer while she is napping.

I wait ALL DAY LONG at the front door for Mom to come home from work
I jump around so happy to see her and tell her everything she missed during the day
I ask if we can go play in the front yard so I can chase the cats away
She says it's too hot to go out there
I beg because I only want to go out for a minute
Finally Mom gives in
I check our yard and the neighbors
When I know everything is ok, I lay down and rest
Mom complains that we aren't walking
I take her back inside to get her to stop complaining
She does lots of boring stuff inside forever
Just when I'm sound asleep because it's dark and finally cooler, Mom wants to go for a walk and I hate to disappoint her
We walk
Mom smiles
I check for cats one more time
We come in and go back to sleep

That's what really happens over here!

What We've Been Up To

While I've been absent, everything has been about the same in south Texas. Its hot in the morning, HOT during the day and just hot at night. Practically anyone could forecast the weather from March until October here.

During our never ending summer, Carly and I keep having the very same argument every day. (Yes she argues! If you don't know what she's barking, that's your problem. I understand her just fine!)

Anyhoo, it goes something like this....

I'm finally get home from work and can't wait to just sit and be quiet
Carly begs and pleads to go on a walk VERY loudly
I remind her we live on the sun and it's too hot to walk before 9pm
She doesn't care, she wants to walk NOW
I try not to make eye-contact
She sits at the front door and whines
I give in and change clothes
We start walking
We get 3 houses away (at the most)
Carly stops and lays under a neighbor's tree
She complains that it's too hot to take a walk
I make her get up
She drags me back home
I say, I told you so
Carly rolls her eyes
We wait until 9
We walk again
Carly smiles
I sweat, because by the way, it's still HOT

I know, I know, I've been a horrible blogger. I'm sorry!!! Not only have I not blogged in nearly a month, but I just deleted over 3000 (totally not exaggerating) of your posts from my reader. I have no excuse to give you, I've just been busy with life. I promise to try to do better, but the holidays are rapidly approaching so I wouldn't hold your breath!

Stealing the spot I was waiting for in the back of the parking lot nearly caused me to use some colorful sign language. This is my 5 year anniversary living in San Antonio. In some ways I can't believe it's already been that long and in other ways, it seems like oh so much longer. I definitely feel like San Antonio is home now and I think I'll stick around awhile longer. In honor of my anniversary, I thought I'd share the top 10 most important things I have learned about ~~this~~ my fine city with all of you!

SA is home of the best margaritas and Mexican food.
If you fall in the river, don't panic, just stand up.
Go Spurs Go! (Don't bother cheering for anyone else here. Trust me!)
Let's Rodeo San Antonio!
Fiesta is a 10 day party you don't want to miss. (But do beware of confetti eggs, no uncovered head is safe.)
Friday's traffic starts on Thursday afternoon. (And Thursdays are just bad, bad, bad anyway.)
If there are 3 or more drops of rain, add an hour to your daily commute.
A flurry or even sliver of ice on the roads and the ENTIRE city shuts down.
It is amazing how fast you can adjust to the heat.
You need a coat any time the temperature dips below 80.

Hi guys,

It's me, Carly. Mom hasn't felt very good this week (she didn't even take me on a walk today, but I'm trying not to be bitter) so she said I could be in charge of the blog.

I've been wanting to tell you how much fun we had on Monday night but she's been sneezing and coughing ever since and I've had to lay right beside her to be sure she's OK. I think she's going to be fine now, but I'll type quickly just in case.

Here's the deal, I'm afraid of everything. You just might not realize how scary the world is. Bikes, scooters, wheelchairs, motorcycles, ladders, brooms, vacuum cleaners, thunder, and hundreds of other things are just awful. I could go on and on about everything that could come after a little Carly dog! The very worst thing in this crazy new house of ours is the lawn mower.

Mom doesn't seem to like the lawn mower very much either. I can tell because it's the only time she wears her stinky old shoes and you know how important cute shoes are to her! (I don't know why she even needs all those shoes. She only has 2 feet!)

Anyway, I've been working on being brave. The other day Mom forgot to turn the TV off and I watched all these humans who want to help me change my life! Dr. Phil was kind of boring, but Stuart Smalley really seems to understand me. I've been telling myself over and over again that I'm good enough, I'm smart enough and Doggone it, people like me!

I finally felt ready to tackle my biggest fear Monday night. I could hear Mom mowing the front yard and I gave myself a big pep talk. Then when she went to the backyard I decided to go for it! I ran out of my safe hiding place to the backyard and chased her, barking at that stupid lawnmower all around the yard. It was scary at first, but it never came after me. I think I taught it a lesson!

I thought Mom would be so proud of me and give me a big bone afterward, but instead she kept checking my eyes, ears, teeth, feet, everything and asking if something was wrong with me. She thought I finally went crazy, but she was the one wearing stinky old shoes and smelling my breath!

No matter what Mom thinks, I'm proud of myself. I'm not going to hide from that stupid lawnmower any more. Next week I might try barking at the broom!

My weekend was jam-packed with fun, friends, food, family, football (BOOMER SOONER) parties, church and shopping. So I managed to never even look at either of the DVRs until Sunday night. Oddly enough, I like none of the Sunday night shows. I know, I know, everyone else loves Sunday night TV, but both of my DVRs are sleeping soundly during that time.

Anyway, last night I finally sat down in my fabulous big red chair to try and quickly catch up on all of last week's shows before they start over again this week. Two hours is not nearly enough time to watch an entire week's worth of TV, so I devised a plan for evaluating new TV shows.

Step one: Grab a bottle of water and the entire bag of boy scout caramel popcorn so you don't have to keep going back for just one more handful. **Lesson learned after 3 trips to the kitchen!**

Step two: Give Carly a bone, because she does not get popcorn.

Step three: Start with the shows you already suspect you might not like so you can speed through. (Especially the shows you guys told me to avoid.)

Step four: Watch the first 10 minutes. This does not mean blog, pet the dog and talk on the phone all at the same time the way I usually watch TV. Actually pay attention for 10 minutes!

Step five: If the show is good, keep watching (so far that has not happened). If unsure, skip ahead 20 minutes and watch 5 more minutes.

Step six: If it's better, rewind and watch the rest of the show. Then decide whether you like the show like a normal person. Otherwise if you still don't like the show after 5 minutes from the middle....stop, delete the episode, delete it from the schedule, do not pass go, do not collect $200 and never look back!

I was able to delete 6 shows last night! My DVRs will thank me this week, I'm quite certain. Unfortunately there are about 20 left that I haven't even watched yet, but hey, it's a start!

If you don't know what I'm talking about, you are either a man who won't shop until December 24th or you really don't know me at all!

Get those lists started (I want new patio furniture if you just weren't sure what to get me) and pick a new hiding place this year. Trust me, shopping is much easier now than in a month when the mall becomes a zoo and even I won't enter it!

New To Me

Over the weekend, I set the DVRs (yes, I have two...yes, I know how ridiculous that is) to record everything new this week. I was really excited that my favorites are back and that there are tons of brand-spanking new shows. The problem is that I haven't had time to watch any of them yet! I certainly hope they are all safely stored in those magic black boxes.

OK wait....I lied. I did watch the season premier of House Monday night, because it's my favorite. But that's the only one. I'm still not sure if the whole thing was real or imaginary. Does anyone have a clue?

Anyhoo, there are now entirely too many for me to watch and it's only the first week of the new season, so I need your help. This weekend I need to catch up, so tell me which new shows you love and which ones I can just delete from the DVR without bothering to watch.

Aliens? The Flu? Spring Fever?

I haven't had chocolate all week. (except one unfortunate nut-filled incident that nearly killed me)
I haven't had bacon since Monday. Monday people!
I haven't worked out all week.
I slept all night every night this week, just like a normal person.
There are clean towels in the dryer I haven't folded from last week.
There are dirty clothes on the chair by my bed and I am not putting them away before I go to sleep.
There are shoes and glasses all over the house and the garage.
I didn't look at facebook until after 3pm today.
Carly is clean and brushed.
I never complained today that it was Thursday.
The get-gas-soon light is on, when my motto is a full tank is a happy tank.
I made dinner two days in a row.
I haven't cleaned anything this week.
I didn't even need to charge my phone in the middle of the day today.
I took a nap yesterday.
I have not been to the mall in over a week!!

Just one of these things would usually mean I'm either sick, lost, dead or aliens have replaced me with a pod person. All of them may mean the end of life as we know it is upon us. I don't really know what happened to normal KK, but I kinda like this one! Have a great weekend!

Dear Hermine,
Welcome. We really are happy to see you. Let's face it, you're probably our only hope at rain for the rest of the year! Feel free to make yourself at home, but there are a few rules you need to know about:

1. Please do not pile up between my home and work. It makes me really cranky to have to find new and inventive routes to work.

2. It's still summer so under no circumstances are you allowed to mess with the power. We need A/C!

3. We need scheduled breaks because Carly does not like you AT ALL. She has to pee sometime, just keep that in mind.

4. Please save the loud parts until bedtime. It helps me sleep and scares Carly so it'd be nice if I was there when you yell.

5. We do not allow tornadoes here. I know you like to show off and the weathermen encourage you (they have really boring jobs in south Texas) but I am not amused by them. Keep them to yourself!

6. Please leave my backyard and house alone. There is a big ditch behind my house that is great fun to slide in. Enjoy it but stay back there!

7. Please stop from 7:50-8:00 each morning for my 2 mile hike into work. It's freezing in my office and if I'm wet too I will be VERY cranky.

8. You must not stop between 5:00 and 9:00 each night. I know you need a break sometimes but I really hate to mow and need you as an excuse!

9. You'll need to be gone by 6:00 on Thursday night since I have 2 places to be at once and adding rain to that equation spells disaster.

10. Don't mess with the Alamo, everyone around here LOVES it. I know it looks kinda small and old, but it's all we have, so keep your lightening away!

Just follow our 10 little rules and we'll all get along great. I promise you are going to love San Antonio! Have a margarita and some fun! San Antonio is fabulous and you'll be glad you stopped by! Feel free to come back next year.

Weekend Wrap Up

I am happy to report that I succeeded in doing almost nothing this holiday weekend. I did get a little bored after about the 14th nap though. In between naps, I managed to clear the DVRs, finish SATC, go to the movies, rent a few movies, clean the house, go out to dinner a couple times, take lots of walks, watch some football and most importantly I did a lot of shopping. So now the living room is finally finished. Carly is not thrilled about having no furniture left to lay on, but as you can see, she does like the new ~~beds~~ rugs I bought her. What do you think?

Facebook What Ifs

Wednesday we had the worst traffic in the history of South Texas or cars! It so irritates me when I can't even figure out why. There wasn't a wreck, no body bags, no fires or explosions, no sink holes, nothin! It took me an hour and a half to drive 10 miles to work for NO apparent reason! Needless to say, I had a lot of free time, so I finally broke down and put Facebook back on my phone. (Don't bother lecturing me about using my phone while driving. I was parked on the road, not driving!) Anyhoo, since I've fallen back into the bad habit of writing everything that crosses my mind there, this will be my last post of what I would have said if I'd been on Facebook. This sums up the first half of the week....

Ugh, I hate school traffic. Can we go back to summer?

It's best to start new goals on Mondays. Or better yet NEXT Monday.

Scott what's his name vs the world was quite possibly the stupidest movie ever but it was better than sitting at home pouting!

Random Shopping Tidbits and A Not At All Wordless Wednesday

Last Friday there was traffic. Lots of traffic. So, I was stuck on road X looking around when I saw the furniture store. I was really bored and thought I'd just go see what they had. 20 minutes later I walked out of the random furniture store after purchasing a new red leather chair and 2 new leather ottomans. They are going to be delivered on Thursday! I have no idea what happens to my brain sometimes, but retail therapy is alive and well in my world.

On the other hand, I am totally incompetent in the grocery store. Saturday I spent an hour and 42 minutes at HEB and only came home with a LOT of Dr. Pepper, kleenex, cookies, candy, dog bones and one can of baked beans. Somehow, that is supposed to feed me all week.

Oh well, at least I have really nice furniture to sit on and drink Dr. Pepper.

I'm still avoiding Facebook, so here's what I would have said this week....

If you know me in real life you are so sick of hearing me say, "have I mentioned my finger hurts?" and "can you open this, my finger hurts". I know how much everyone loves a guess-how-I-hurt-myself-this-time story, so here you go.

For about a month I've been certain someone is in the attic. Now you'd probably think I meant a squirrel or bat (I do love bats) but no I'm thinking it's a human. There have been big noises up there, people! Plus, people sometimes come with houses. My grandparents house came with an old man living in the basement. Not renting, he was just living there. They agreed to keep him when they bought the house. It's kinda like adopting a homeless person. So it makes perfect sense to me that someone could be up there.

I have been too ~~lazy~~ busy to go check it out until about 2 weeks ago. I don't remember which day but I think we can all agree this should be a Thursday story even if it's not.

So I decided to go check it out. Now I'm kinda short. Not compared to other women but compared to the ceiling I am. I jumped and jumped to grab the string to pull the attic access open. Finally I got it, but unlike in my old house the ladder does not just slide down. It was stuck up there and throwing my shoes at it did no good.

At that point, I did what any smart KK would do. I got the mop! I was doing pretty good at first. I wedged the handle under the ladder and with great control was unfolding the ladder when...CRACK...the mop handle broke. Yeah, guess what happened then!?! The ladder came crashing down towards my head and I threw my arms up to protect myself. I knocked myself out once before in the back yard, so I know to protect my head now! (I'm not sure why I think living on my own is a good idea.)

Clearly my finger took most of the hit because the bruise all the way down my arm is now gone and yet my finger is still killing me!!

Oh but the ladder did not beat me! I used the broom handle to put it back up (even more carefully this time), after I looked in the attic of course. By the way, no one was up there so now I think there's a ghost (which is awesome, now I have someone to talk too besides Carly).

It wasn't until the next day at work when I was telling everyone why I looked like I got into a fight that I realized...next time I could stand on a chair or the step ladder to reach it. Oh well.

Did I mention my finger hurts?

Facebook and I are officially on a break. I also cancelled my Twitter account all together. Unfortunately I didn't tell anyone first. Everyone panicked and thought I was dead because it is a ghost town there...no posts, no pics, no stats, nothin'! But as my friend Mel always says, don't put a period where God put a comma. So everyone just calm down! I'll be back, I promise.

For now I'm playing more Angry Birds and Words With Friends than you can imagine and looking forward to going to work just to cure my boredom. In the meantime I have to have an outlet for the ~~stupid~~ ~~funny~~ pointless things that bounce around my brain. I've been texting them to a few of my best girls all weekend. Then today I thought to start writing them down instead of driving everyone nuts with random texts.

Here are a few:

August was not in the "move to San Antonio" brochure!

Yard is mowed and now I'm going to die. Nice knowing you!
The pool feels like bath water but it's better than the air.
Bought wine, roses, and toilet paper at the store. That'll feed me for a week, right?

Happy Friday the 13th!!!

OK, most of you probably think Friday the 13th is a reason to stay home and hide from ladders and black cats, but I LOVE it! We are going out to celebrate it tonight and you should too. Also its my 5/12th birthday and you can't skip that! What, you don't celebrate your birthday every month? That's very sad, you should try it.

Anyhoo, I'm crazy behind on blogging and have much to show and tell. For now I'll just mention book club last night because those ladies rock. You know how I feel about Thursdays and yesterday was the worst one I've ever had. By the time I got to book club last night I was a crying (yes I said it, tears, I can do it when I have too) mess (for reasons I'm not about to share on the internet, but email me if you just need to know the dirt) but they made my day. Thanks girlies, what would I do without y'all?

We read Intervention by Terri Blackstock this month (and when I say this month, I mean I read it in the last 2 days, but hey I finished on time!). We all liked it, but as usual I had to read the ending first because it was scary and I don't need any more scary in my head!

Next month we are reading Prisoners of Hope, which is a true story so I won't have to read the ending first!

Now the super fun part about last night. I finally got a new iPhone. The never-ending saga of that will have to wait for another post, but I do have a new phone that actually works. My sweet friend JoAnn brought me a new skin to put on it. Isn't it perfect for me? (Except for the awful orange color of that place just to the north!) In case you can't read it, cuz let's face it the camera on the iPhone is ~~crap~~ not the best, it says: I am fairly certain that given a cape and a nice tiara, I could save the world. Why yes, I think so!

After all these years, I had never seen Sex and the City. My sister loves it and has been trying to get me to watch it, but I just refused and secretly mocked her. Then ~~mini-me~~ my good friend Jamfla deserted me. She moved back to Iowa (which does have a consonant but for some reason we are calling it the state with no consonants). I was really emotional about her leaving (you know I don't cry, but a lone tear may or may not have been shed) and wondering where I would get her unique and fabulous advice. She convinced me that everything she knew came from Sex and the City and it wasn't fair for me to judge without first watching it.

I had to be fair. If 2 women I adore (and who knows how many others of you) loved this show so much, maybe I should give it a try. Plus, they promised me it's all about shoes! This weekend, I settled in with my sisters DVDs of every season and the movie. Wow, this is the bad part and please don't tell pastKK but I'm hooked. How embarrassing!

The final week...of class, not my life...I hope!

Remember when I had to stay an entire week in ~~nowhere~~ Temple Texas and the trauma of making this poster? I am so not crafty! But then they rewarded us with spending the next week of leadership class living in the mall in Dallas. Oh the clothes I came home with!

Well, this week was the third and final week. The great news is that it was home sweet home in San Antonio. The bad news of course is that they made everyone head south in July. July is just not our most comfortable month! And have I mentioned the crickets? Oh my word, I'm so sick of crickets. We constantly had to watch the floor to be sure no crickets jumped into our purses!

The hotel we basically lived in this week was haunted. That's right, super fun ghosts! And no, I ain't afraid of no ghost! I loved reading all the stories and many people had "encounters." OK, maybe it's all nonsense, but its fun and weird things did indeed happen.

Um, someone should warn them that putting a sign that says Please Do Not Touch is just begging me to accidentally bump into it! I only wish I could have taken a picture of a Please No Photos sign for you!

We all finished the class successfully and had a fabulous time at our graduation party, which of course in San Antonio begins with margaritas!

It is a huge relief that all the work involved with the class is over, but I'm going to miss seeing everyone each week. How much do you want to bet I'm hunting for a new project on Monday?

Um, yeah, I know I've been a very bad blogger. Not only have I not been around here, but there may or may not be over 1000 of your posts in my reader. How did I let that happen??? So, I'll just give you a quick 4th of July update and get back to commenting!

First of all, I totally forgot my blogoversary!!! July 3, 2008 I started the dear old blog because I was bored and couldn't sleep one night. Now 2 years later, I still pretty much blog when I can't sleep in the middle of the night. Doesn't everyone? And in the shower, I do my best thinking in the shower. What was my point? Oh yeah, thanks for stopping by everyday, or well week lately.

Anyhoo, I made a quick trip to Kansas for the 4th of July. It was a spur of the moment trip, which is absolutely not like me, AT ALL. But it was super fun and now I just might pop up there again at any moment! I was able to see almost every relative I have. Some cousins I hadn't seen in over 10 years were even there. They were home for their mom's birthday (my aunt in case you aren't paying attention). I think she had a great weekend, especially when she made all of her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews do the robot while we sang happy birthday to her! (No, you aren't getting the pic of that!)

Of course, my galavanting across the countryside meant Carly was left behind. A couple of good friends from church ~~begged~~ asked sweetly if they could keep her and of course I took them up on it before they could give it a second thought. She was totally spoiled there and I hope they let her come back because I'll never convince her to stay in a kennel all weekend again! In fact I left them her travel crate but apparently she learned how to unzip it while she was there. She has decided at her age crates are just no longer appropriate. I really can't blame her.

They knew I was nervous leaving her in a new place so they were sweet enough to send me a postcard from her while I was gone. I warned them it'd make the blog, so hi Mr. and Mrs. E! Thank you for taking care of my girl!

Just a postcard to let you know I’m OK, Mom! I finally felt a little more at ease today! I really like that man they call S. He pets me and talks to me. I slept well last night…at least I think I did. I am so glad it stopped raining so I could go outside and smell the air without getting sopping wet!

You will be so proud of me, Mom, I cleaned my plate today! I was so hungry, The food magically disappeared during the night. Boy, were those nice people happy and surprised when they got up this morning!

Can you believe how lazy these folks are?….we laid around watching movies today. They said they had to get some things off their DVR recording schedule. They watched a funny movie with Walter Mattheau, “Housecalls”. I thought Mrs. E was going to die laughing. I went behind the chair, she scared me! They also watched “The Day of the Jackal”. (sp?) They don’t keep the dictionary where I can easily access it.

I am a little sad right now because they are going to church and are planning to leave me here again! It is times like this, I really miss you! They did say they would be back soon!

I hope you are having fun. I still want you to take me on a plane someday…it sounds like fun! Tell my relatives hello for me and I would like to see them sometime.

I love you and miss you, Mom! Thank you for letting me stay with these nice people. They LOVE people like me! They are taking very good care of me. Have a safe flight home and I look forward to greeting you in my special way Monday evening.

I did! Lexy has been a very busy girl this summer, so I stole her away for a few hours on Saturday.

We played and ate and played and ate some more.

She told me winning this ice cream cone (that shoots the ice cream off the cone) is the best thing that ever happened to her! Seriously? As soon as she saw the look on my face, she quickly decided meeting me might be a tiny bit more important than getting this toy, but just barely. Have I mentioned I don't enjoy flying ice cream while driving? Because I'm not a fan!

Anyway, Carly was thrilled to see her.

And then she taught me something fabulous. Did you know there is a power button right on the wii remote??? Why didn't anyone tell me that before? I wonder what else I need an almost middle schooler to teach me.

She evidently grabbed my camera when we were driving and just like me felt the need to take pics of herself. I love this one!

I don't know what this one is about though.

I think she's busy for another month, but we had enough fun to last until then. I hope you had a great weekend too!

Halfway There

It's Finally My Turn

Thursdays can be kind of rough, so this should help. My good friend, co-worker and possibly twin separated at birth ~~30 years later~~, Jamfla loves planning and organization even more than I do. I didn't think that was even possible, so she is currently my hero. She has made tons of pie charts for everyone in our little work family, but never me. Finally I ~~begged~~ asked nicely enough for her to make a ~~pie~~ donut (I say doughnut, you say donut) chart of my very own. Now on this scary first Thursday back to work I'm wearing a brand new skirt, keeping my phone and candy ready and pulling out my donut chart whenever I need a little laugh. Carly went nuts when I came inside from watering tonight. She ran around in circles barking like a crazy dog. I tried and tried to figure out what was up and then out of the corner of my eye I saw something run across the wall.

Carly of course took off to try and catch it and the poor little thing was treed (or walled as the case may be). Carly then sat right down and watched it for over an hour. She decided we should keep it for a pet and we named it Sam.

I tried drawing a super cute red arrow to point to the little gecko, lizard, salamander, who knows what, but photoshop makes me say things that cause Carly to cover her ears, so I gave up. Surely you can see that little spot up by the ceiling. Imagine a big red arrow!

We are used to these critters. They are everywhere and I just ignore them. Apparently everyone does. In fact I found the skeleton of one when I was babysitting in Houston. He was unfortunately trapped in a cabinet too long. You know how I feel about being trapped. Maybe that is when my fear of elevators began. Don't let this happen to you, take the stairs! Wait where was I? Oh yeah, the kids and I thought that was super cool, but their parents were not as amused.

Anyhoo.....it was getting late, but Carly was not giving up. She wanted to show Sam the rest of the house or eat him, who knows. I finally turned out all the lights and drug her to bed with me. Then 15 minutes later I went back out to check and Sam was gone. I was content to assume he disappeared but Carly went nuts again. Then we found him trying very hard to quietly let himself out. Isn't he polite? I opened the door and he was gone.

Carly is very mad that I let her pet go and she's still waiting by the front door in case he comes back. I should really think about getting her a puppy or something.

I know I've been a bad blogger, but I have a doctor's niece and nephew's note. I had a little procedure last week. Everything is fine, but I get a little vacation now so I promise to try to be a better blogger. (In between cleaning up the almost full DVR and taking several naps a day.)

Macy and Marshall worked so hard to help me feel better that I had to bounce right back.

I can't hold her, but Elli and I are spending lots of time watching TV on the couch.

It's me, Carly. I've given up on mom and I bet you have too. She never opens this little red box anymore. I don't know what is wrong with her. Really she's never here and when she is she won't put that stupid phone down. And you know that evil Wii thing she makes me get on and then lectures me about how tubby I am? Well, now she knows how to do that and watch TV at the same time! I'm surprised she hasn't figured out how to blog at the same time, but I bet she will any day now.

I've been taking care of everything around here. I'm quite attached to my new couch now. (She thought she could keep me off of it, but we all know who is in charge here.) She keeps telling me to clean. That's silly though, everything is better covered in dirt. I make sure to roll in something nasty outside and then run inside and roll around on her new rug to keep things smelling fresh in here. Speaking of rugs, when will she learn that the rugs in the bathroom are much more comfortable to sleep on when they are all wadded up? Why does she keep straightening them? I work hard to keep this place nice.

There have been lots of humans coming by to see me and they talk to mom a little bit too. Those short ones are kind of loud and they throw things, so I stay away from them. The one they call PawPaw is great though. He lets me sleep right beside him on the couch. Melissa spent a whole week with me and did lots of cooking. I didn't know such wonderful smells could come from the kitchen. Mom just gets drinks from that room. She's so boring!

Yesterday was kind of exciting. All day I kept thinking it was really hot in the house, so I dug a nice hole under a tree in the cool dirt. I love my yard! Anyway, when Mom came home she started talking really loudly at some box on the wall. I guess it was really naughty; maybe it killed a bird too. She kept telling me no one should live in South Texas without air conditioning and we might just sneak into a hotel. I'm all for sneaking into places I'm not supposed to, so I grabbed my bone and waited by the door. We were up way past my bedtime when some nice human came by and poof, the house was cool again. Mom said she was close to shaving me. I don't know what that means, but I'm really glad I didn't have to find out.

Mom says lots of people are coming back today and she'll be gone for a little while. She said she can't take this little red box this time, so I might update you again. I'm a busy dog though. There are birds, squirrels and cats to chase. And so many flowers to dig up!

This will be short and sweet because I'm sitting in the airport. I'll be gone for a week, but all your blogs will be safe in my reader when I get back. I'm off to Dallas for week two of the class they made us go to Temple for in March. The good news is that we get to go to Dallas this time instead of Temple! The great news is that we will be living at the mall for a week! That's right, we are staying at the Galleria. That makes this the best work trip EVER! Why waste time eating when you can shop for lunch? And remember this poster they made us make? Well, I am thrilled to report I am poster-free this week! I so hate arts and crafts.

Carly is safe at home with my friend Melissa this week, so don't feel sorry for her. She threw a fit when I left, but I'm sure she's jumping for joy now. It's not that she prefers Melissa to me (at least that's what I tell myself) it's just that she cooks! I will be putting Carly on a diet the minute I get home because I know she convinces Melissa that I told her treats were OK. They are not!

Last weekend my sister reminded me that I never answered your questions. I promised to do it this week, but she told me not to promise since she doubted I'd ever remember. I locked myself out of my office 3 times this week, so I can't even argue with her! Anyway, I'll answer some and save some for later.

Are you a Chalet in the mountains with a roaring fire or a Luxurious Hut on the beach with a hammock, kind of girl?

The beach because I prefer the heat, but eventually I'd get bored and choose the mountains.

What made you move to Texas?

Which time? In first grade I moved from Oklahoma to West Texas (because you pretty much have to move when your parents move). That is where we acquired my sister so I can't complain. In 4th grade we moved back to Oklahoma and never planned to leave. Nice try, when I was a junior in high school we moved back to West Texas against my will (again the whole living with your parents thing). I promised as an adult I would never, ever live in West Texas again (dust storms, that's all I'm saying)! Um, never say never, because my first job after grad school was right back in West Texas. I was only going to live there 9 months. 8 years later I finally left and moved to South Texas.

Do you like living in Texas?

I do love living here now. Although we got 4 inches of rain today and it's still raining, it is usually clear and hot which is fabulous for allergies and joints (I'm old don't judge me). Plus I live 2 miles from my brother, SIL, niece and nephew. I can grab them whenever I need a kid fix and take them right back home when I'm done!

Did you go to college?

Yes, I went to The University of Oklahoma. BOOMER SOONER!

What memory in your brain brings up an instant giggle when you think on it?

I can think of many I'd love to tell you, but it's entirely too late to call people and ask permission to blog, so I'll tell you something I did. After my sister had been in labor all day long, we were finally told it wouldn't be much longer. That's exactly the time that I really, really had to go! I tried to wait for fear of being in the restroom when my BIL came out to tell us she was here, but when you gotta go, you gotta go! I made the family promise to come bang on the door if anything happened. Of course, while I was in the restroom someone knocked on the door. Without even thinking, instead of saying occupied, just a minute, or who is it, I yelled %^#@ really kinda loud! Then I immediately started laughing and so did the people knocking. It was another hour before Elli arrived, but I didn't dare go to the restroom again!

What was your favorite movie as a teen?

My favorite movie has been Grease for as long as I can remember. My sister and I can sing every word to every song, quote every line, know every dance move and I may or may not have costumes. Only Carly knows and she's not telling.

How did you get started blogging?

July 4th weekend of 2008 I was trapped home alone with Carly and my brother's dog, while everyone I knew was out of town. I was awake reading the blogs of all my family and friends one night and since I had nothing else to do, started this dear old blog. Whenever my brother's dog is about to stay here, they tell him he is going to "kampkk" and that was the only name I could think of at the time that was available. I never expected to write any more than that weekend, but here we are!

What is your favorite food?

Chocolate is my favorite food, of course. Isn't it yours?

What was your first job ever?

My first job 25 years ago was babysitting and I just got home from babysitting tonight too!

Book Club

Obviously I'm a little late, but last night was book club. We had a blast and even discussed the book a little bit! They had to persuade me to read this book, because I'm not crazy about being scared for no apparent reason. Let's face it, Carly is not that much protection and I still don't know what causes all the noises in this house. Anyway, I don't think I'll ruin it for anyone by telling you that someone was kidnapped. Shocking, I know! It didn't end up scaring me but just in case, I skimmed the last few pages to be sure my favorite characters were still alive. (Most importantly, I need to know the pets live.) Unfortunately that didn't help me at all this time. I kept re-reading the end and it didn't fit with the story until it was almost over. That just proves cheating gets you nowhere kids!

Next month we are reading Dogwood. I don't expect to be able to join the girls (although I haven't ruled it out), but maybe I can listen on speakerphone :) I'll definitely see y'all in July!

I can't even kill anything

Once upon a time, KK bought a house yard for Carly to live in. And that's really where the fairy tale ends!

Anyway, do you see that brown, dead prickly thing in the back? It's some palm something or other and there are 4 in my yard. All of my neighbors have them, so apparently everyone loves them. But here's the thing....I don't! They are prickly and they don't flower or smell nice. Why would you plant something that doesn't even have flowers (besides grass)???? I don't understand that at all.

As everything else was greening up in the backyard, they all stayed brown and ugly. One night a few weeks ago I was full of energy and chopped them all up. I was tired of them scratching me and they were ugly. I thought they might come back, but probably not. I was quite happy with the not coming back option because I'd get to plant 4 beautiful rose bushes where they once were without feeling guilty for ripping out something alive.

And then I noticed this growing out of the top. I'm not sure if God healed them or if I was actually supposed to cut all those branches off for it to grow, but either way something was happening.

Today they have all these new branches. They aren't flowers and they don't smell, but it was kind of fun to see something growing out of what I thought was most definitely dead.

So I guess I'll keep them for now. If you know of a better way to "accidentally" kill them, let me know. I clearly failed!

Carly and I headed west for Mother's Day. She is the best car riding dog you've ever seen. She sits quietly in her seat belt and never complains. She is a little stubborn though. She refuses to fall asleep and miss anything! I tell her she can sleep, but she won't. Slowly her head will start to bob and her eyes will shut and then they will pop right back open (just like me on a teleconference but let's keep that between us). Five to six hours each way and she never, ever gives in. Needless to say, she's been asleep since we got home!
My sister and I have our own version of the sisterhood of the traveling pants. We may live on opposite sides of the state, but we still share/steal clothes. We have 4 pairs of jeans that criss-cross the state as we each cycle in and out of that size. (Does pair vs. pairs bother anyone else? Google it and it will confuse you even more, so I give up.) I also found wind pants she stole last time. Although I'm excited to have somewhat new clothes, let's be realistic, it will be 90-105 degrees outside for the next 6 months. I won't be wearing anything but skirts and shorts anyway!
I really do need new clothes (really) so we found a super cute dress shop where I got a gorgeous new dress. While we were trying on everything in the store, my dear little sister made me try on a dress that I knew I wouldn't be able to unzip by myself. We all know how I hate to be trapped. She thinks this is "therapy" so she zipped me up and refused to unzip it! If I didn't love her more than chocolate I would have slapped her! She made me wait 9 hours 5 minutes to prove I wouldn't die from being trapped in a dress. I lived, but obviously I didn't buy that dress. It was super cute but can you just imagine me running next door when I get home from work to ask the neighbor to unzip me? I don't think so!
When I was a teenager my mom would get so annoyed with us for sleeping in on Saturday morning. For some reason she thought there was something else we should be doing. I'm certain we would have just been annoying her, so she should have let us sleep, but she didn't listen. Apparently mom is at the point where she is now the teenager because Saturday morning I had to wake her up....4 times! At one point she asked me what time it was. I told her 8:30 and she looked at me like I had lost my mind. She told me that was way too early and to go back to bed! Where was this woman when I was 17??? After breakfast she asked, "What else are we doing? Surely you didn't wake me up just for breakfast!" I love you mom! (high sign-that one is for you)
We all stop at the same gas stations and restaurants along the way to Nonnie and Pawpaw's house and back. I could drive it with my eyes closed and I think Carly knows exactly where and when we will stop. The gas station we always use in San Angelo (it's the cheapest, trust me) cracks me up every time. When you are putting in your credit card information, it asks if you want a car wash each time. That seems normal, you see that at most gas stations. The problem with this one is that they don't have a car wash!!! How many people have said yes, paid for a car wash and then driven around and around the building looking for it?
Today I went to get a massage. (I know, shopping and a massage...I had a better mother's day than most of you moms. Sorry!) I try to schedule one after a long drive, because I know I'll be sore. Anyway, it was going just fine until I fell asleep and then woke up suddenly. You know when you wake up and have NO CLUE where you are? Well, usually it happens when I wake up at my parents house, but in the middle of a massage is a little more embarrassing. Luckily I didn't jump up, but the massage therapist did chuckle a little bit. Oh well, I'm used to amusing people!

I'd like to dedicate this post to the 3 men who made this a most excellent weekend.

Remember last week, when I got the rude informative letter from the HOA? Well, this little strip of dead grass between the sidewalk and the curb is what they were all upset about.

Thanks to my fabulous brother, this is what I came home to on Friday! How sweet is that???? I've spent every waking minute since watering so I stay out of trouble.

Saturday was May Day which is basically Christmas in May! My dad always send flowers and everyone knows I love flowers.

And then there was George. Saturday night George Strait and Reba came to sing for me and 55,000 of my closest friends. Sadly, this is the only picture I took! I was too busy having the time of my life :)

You all know I hate Thursdays. Everyone knows I hate Thursdays. How many bad things have to happen on a Thursday to prove it's just a rotten day? My good friend CC (I'm not linking to her blog until she updates it... hint hint) will agree that the day is cursed. We live on opposite sides of this country state and yet we always have the same bad Thursday.

We really are happy girls. We want Thursday to be a good day. Every week, we give ourselves and each other pep talks. We mentally prepare for the challenges a Thursday always brings and decide we can handle them. Thursday morning we get up and face the day, ready to tackle whatever it throws at us.

But by 9, one of us has likely lost the will to fight. By noon someone is usually bleeding, we have both given up and we are just wishin' and hopin' we survive the rest of the day so we can go home and take a nap.

I'm rather stubborn (family nods their heads furiously) and I decided today was the day. The day I beat Thursday! Last night I went shopping, because a girl needs a new skirt and heels to win that kind of fight. CC got a dressy new pair of pants and we were ready to go!

This morning was a little rocky, I'll admit. I lost a battle with my desk chair and was bleeding by 8:30 but after a little first aid I was back in the game, even more determined. Poor CC had a sore toe as well and a mean eye that wouldn't stop hurting all day, but did she let it beat her? No way! Then there was that minute that I looked down, and saw my knees. For the briefest second my heart stopped when I thought I was trapped in one of those dreams where you forget to wear pants to work! But then I remembered I was wearing a skirt (I never wear skirts to work).

I was a little too proud as I was heading home, thinking I finally had a good Thursday. Thursday had one more hit though. 2 miles from home I ran into the worst, nastiest traffic jam ever in the history of cars. I tried 3 different routes and could not get home. At first I thought, stupid Thursday, but just like that, I turned around and headed the other direction. I called M and told her traffic mandated that we go out to eat and go out to eat we did! After dinner, running errands and shopping there was no traffic left on my way home.

I got home and watched my Spurs WIN! It was a lot of work, but so did we! CC, the Spurs and I are the champions today! Take that Thursday!

(I've decided it must have been the skirt. I vote we wear skirts every Thursday and I'm trying to talk my co-workers into joining me next week. Don't worry, we're hunting down kilts for the guys. I'd hate to leave anyone out.)

My Saturday

KampKK is open again. Max (Carly's cousin... obviously through adoption) is here to play for the weekend. So far I am happy to report that there have been no major fights. Max sits at the front door a lot waiting to go home though. And shhhh..... Don't tell his mom, but he does enjoy getting to sleep in bed here. (I don't know why I used my phone instead of my camera all day, but excuse the poor photo quality!)
I mowed the backyard all by myself, thankyouverymuch! That would be my first time to ever mow a yard. My nephew was going to come by and "push down the tall weeds" with his bubble mower first, but he was out of town, so I had to do it on my own. I think he'll be proud of me though!

I finally bought a couch and ottoman. I did not buy either of these, but they were definitely runners up (runner ups? Whatever!). They are delivering them between 7:30 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. tomorrow. A 14 hour window, that is beyond annoying!! Oh well, I have plenty to do around here to keep me busy.
I also bought a table and chairs (actually stools, but they'll sit so don't judge me) for the kitchen. That's right, no more eating at the bar. Not that I ever eat here or cook, but when my parents are here, they tend to want to sit somewhere. They are picky like that.
I saw another one of those little geniuses today. Because photoshop was clearly made by men, it still makes no sense to me. Anyway, as you can see, I'm not getting much better but I had fun!

I'll have plenty of time to answer your questions tomorrow as I wait 14 hours for the furniture that will probably be delivered at the last possible moment!

Cool new feature or gremlins?

I'm still working on your questions. OK, that's just a lie. I haven't started because I have not been home all week, but I will get to them this weekend, I promise!

Today, I need to rant about my car, so if you aren't in the mood, you might want to move along.

Still here? OK, but I warned you!

I've said before that I have a Camry hybrid and love love love it. Even with all the runaway car stuff going on, I've been standing by my man car! (I promise not to sing.) I have not had any problems with the gas pedal, but I did get the replacement a few weeks ago, just in case. I was there for the regular stuff anyway, so why not throw that in? Plus I don't like to make my grandma worry, hi grandma! :)

Then my car came up with the handiest new feature. After almost 3 years, all of a sudden it keeps my drinks cold. One day I picked up a bottle of water that had been in my bag all day and should have been warm....but it was cold. At first I didn't notice and then I thought, fabulous, its magic! But then I remembered magic only exists on the internet.

Honestly, this was a pretty cool feature I would even recommend they look into adding to all of their cars. But as days went by the entire console started getting really cold. My cell phone was too cold to pick up and that can't be good for it!

So, back to Toyota I went. They kept my nice little car all day only to tell me they thought it was just fine!

Um, so what, this is a brand new feature? Is it a secret upgrade I got by wifi in the middle of the night?

The man had that stupid-woman-you-wouldn't-understand look on his face (which leads me to make the you-are-a-sad-little-excuse-for-a-man face), but I left because I had to go back to work.

Fast forward a week and not only is the whole thing getting colder and colder, but when we had a freak cold night, it got super hot! That is not nice at all and I'm certain is bad for the dear old iPhone!

I ignored it for a couple days until I noticed that the display was all blurry (where it usually says Welcome to Camry, and the radio station, etc.). That cannot be ignored, so I called dear old Toyota, but they aren't there on Saturday!

What happened to the promises on the news? What happened to, "We will do everything we can to satisfy our customers and work extra hours" blah blah blah???

OK, technically someone was there. The operator answered and told me that no one who makes appointments was there and you have to have an appointment so I should just call back on Monday. Of course on Monday the screen was fine, so I went back to ignoring it.

But now the power outlet doesn't work. If I can't charge that phone and plug in the GPS, I will buy a new car. Don't mess with me Toyota!

So, I called them again today (Wednesday). I tell them my list of problems and mention I'm the only one who even still likes Toyota in the country and she says they don't have any hybrid techs this week.

What if it stops working completely? I mean we seem to be heading there, little bit by little bit. I didn't even tell you that the key is dead and I can't find a replacement battery ANYWHERE!!! It seems to be something new every day.

Now I have to wait until next Wednesday to take it back to them. If they try and tell me that its all "just fine", I'm going to be in the market for a new non-Toyota car! (Don't worry, I'm much better at buying cars than furniture or houses. It won't take nearly as long!)

This Little Piggy Went...

Let me first apologize for the quality of these photos. You would not do much better with an iPhone in one hand and a leash holding back a huge dog in the other. In fact, I've been trying to take a decent picture of this for weeks.

Anyway, this little piggy has been pure joy for me since we moved into the neighborhood. You see, it sits in our neighbor's yard and in the dark, it almost looks like a little white cat.

Now, you know how we love to chase cats around here. To be honest, the first time Carly "chased" it in full-on attack mode, I was cheering her on... um, sorry cat people. I'd never let her eat one, but chasing them is fun! In fact, when she's being lazy and doesn't want to run with me, I might occasionally lie suggest that there might be a cat ahead and tell her to go get it!

But the fact that it is not a cat or even real and it fools her in the middle of the day, Cracks. Me. Up. I nearly peed in my pants, laughing so hard the first time she ran "after" it. She still does it, every time we walk by. This of course means that I make her walk by it several times a day, just for a little chuckle. You can see she is not amused that I'm laughing hysterically at her while she tries to rid the world of this evil cat pig.

And this face is that quick look back, to be sure that stupid cat pig is still not real. Rats, she was certain it was real this time!

A Super Relaxing Weekend is What I Needed

You (like the wii fit lady) may be thinking I'm dead, ran away from home or fell and couldn't reach the keyboard (or wii remote). But never fear, I'm still here. I did an obscene amount of sleeping this weekend and I think I may finally be winning the war on pollen.

I also learned How to Train Your My Dragon last night.

We loved it, but then anything in 3-D is usually a hit. Kids love to wear goofy glasses!

Am I the only one incapable of taking my own picture with my phone? Whatever, she's the one you want to see anyway!

Tim Downs writes the Bug man novels and I am crazy about that bug man. I don't even like mysteries, but for the bug man, I will make an exception. When I found out he was writing a non bug man novel, Wonders Never Cease, I was way excited and added it to my wish list to order the day it released. (Am I the only one who uses that Amazon wish list to keep track of everything? Whatever did we do before iPhones and the magic of the internet?)

Anyway, I was reading his blog a few weeks ago and saw that you could sign up to read an advanced copy, for free. For free! Of course, I jumped up and down yelling, Pick Me, Pick Me! (And then calmly filled out the form.)

The book came in the mail last week and I couldn't wait until I had time to sit down and read it. I knew once I started I wouldn't want to put it down and I was right. I adored it and finished it in 2 nights. I'm definitely going to try and convince the book club girls that we should add it to our list.

Now I better go work out so I don't feel quite so guilty when that wii fit lady asks why it's been so long. You left lots of good questions and I promise to answer them this week!

Weekend Wrap-up

Actually, it's more like a Saturday wrap-up. Friday night I worked in the yard ALL NIGHT! That of course meant yesterday and today I could not breathe at all! But sandwiched in between that little cause and effect was a super fun Saturday.

My friend Melissa tricked me into going to a crawfish boil with her for lunch! Supposedly, she couldn't find anyone else to go with her and I would be a horrible friend if I made her go alone. I said no and did a lot of very mature eye rolling all week until I finally gave in Saturday morning. But only after making her call the restaurant to be sure I could get catfish, because I do not eat critters I have to take out of their very own shell and that still have eyes to look at you with. Ewwww.

So, I went hoping to seem annoyed enough to use my "sacrifice" to blackmail her into shopping with me later. I told the waitress my friend was already there and she said, yes THEY are out on the patio. THEY? That's right she had tricked 2 other friends into going too! That little brat (I mean that in the most loving way) owes me a trip to San Marcos so I can have a Fazoli's fix next time I need it! (I don't know why they won't just build one here. We have like a gazillion people who eat food, but whatever.)

Ah-hem, the thing is, I had a blast! (But if you tell her that, my plan is ruined, so mums the word, got it?) It was for a good cause too (although I never found out what that cause was). My catfish was yummy and the music was great. But as you can see one of those critters looked exactly like he was trying to crawl out and that is why I will not ever eat them!

My nephew started soccer on Saturday as well. He had played soccer for a couple seasons a year or so ago, but he was rather shy and timid and didn't always play. This year his Dad is the coach and you can tell they have been practicing. I can't count the hours I sat watching his Dad (my little brother) at soccer practice and games growing up. I'd like to point out that there were no iPhones to play with back then! But it was definitely worth it to see them bonding over it now. Aren't they the cutest? Sorry Sean, manly, aren't they manly?

He played hard and even got a package of cherry Pop Rocks from my secret stash for playing so great.

Speaking of pop rocks, I found the cherry kind at the dollar store last week. The Dollar Store! After I paid entirely too much to order a huge lifetime supply of them, in case you have forgotten. I was both excited (for you, because you can now go get them for yourselves) and annoyed that I could have just gone to the stupid Dollar Store!

Anyhoo... Where was I?

Oh yes, my nephew rocks and I am looking forward to many more Saturdays of soccer fun. He thanked me sweetly for coming and asked if I'd be back. I said, of course, I wouldn't miss a game. Then he asked if I could come watch his practice too! Hmm, this is starting to feel just like old times. At least I have an iPhone now!

Guess Who Turns 9 Today

It's Carly's birthday! Well, actually I have no idea what day her birthday is. Her "found" date was April 12, 2002. The day she found me, that is. The vet thought she was about a year old then, so that's as close as we'll ever get to her exact birthday.

I tried several times to take a birthday pic of the two of us today. I thought waiting a few hours and trying again might find her in better spirits.

But she was not amused. As if holding the camera far enough away and figuring out the timer wasn't enough, she'd run and hide between every picture!

She'd much rather go outside and try to dig under the house than deal with my flashing lights and a camera on a long scary stick.

This is the bush she has been running through my barricade to dig under all week. (I finally gave up and took the little fence down this weekend. There was really no point, since she could get right through it.)

I had been wondering why she must always dig under this bush, until I caught her today. I found her happily sniffing away at each of the flowers. I'll admit they smell incredible, but it cracks me up that she likes the smell too!

And under it is the nice cool bed she has dug for herself. She may need a doghouse for her birthday. I'll just have to make sure it has fresh flowers in it!

You May Have Noticed

My friend Lourie over at CA Girl gave me the great idea of talking about some of my quirks tonight. Not that I don't tell you about them all the time, but I'm exhausted from 3 hours of yard work tonight and a list sounded super easy! Here are a few I don't think I've shared before:

I need to keep my hair off my neck when it's wet. You know if it dries while wrapped around your neck it can get stuck and strangle you!
I don't eat soup. You have no idea what's secretly swimming in there!
I had eggs for breakfast everyday this week. Cadbury eggs.
I will not waste calories on low quality candy.
If I get a box of chocolates.....wait....this is one all by itself. When I hear "a box of chocolates" it always will be Forest Gump's voice in my head.
As I go through that box of chocolates I have to decide whether I like each piece before I'll eat it. So, I bite into each one and if I don't love it, I will spit it in the trash can and have another. The ones in the trash do not count!
I went to like 32 or 6 different schools from Kindergarten to 4th grade. Then, I (well my whole family, it wasn't like I set off on my own) moved to a different state in the middle of my junior year of high school. (If someday the first K does in fact stand for Krazy, I'm totally blaming it on this.)
I have 7 email accounts and actually use them all for different things.
I set 2 alarm clocks every night, just in case!
I must read at all times if possible. If I have to I'll read every sign on the wall or the back of the candy wrapper.
I have 549 blankets, but if I see a cute or soft one, I will come home with it. (Don't even ask about my shoe habit.)
I only have drinks, condiments and chocolate in my fridge. Wait, I have cheese too!
I have not used the oven yet, but it's only been 2 months.
I read the last page of every book first.
I do my best blogging in the shower. I just have to repeat it over and over in my head until I can get to the computer.

Last week was our anniversary.

I can't believe we've already been matched for 2 years!

Those are her Easter/Anniversary presents. She loves blue, so she was very happy :) She chose to go to Incredible Pizza Company, of course. (We went there the day we were matched and we have been back 3 million times since then.)

Thank you Big Brothers and Big Sisters for bringing this amazing little girl into my life!

Since it's book club day, it seemed like the perfect time to recommend a cute new children's book to you. This little book was precious. I can't wait to have my nieces and nephew over for a sleep-over so we can read it together. This Little Prayer of Mine, by Anthony DeStefano is the perfect bedtime book. This "little" prayer is just right for inspiring little (and big) kids to pray.

Tonight we met for book club. You all know how I feel about Thursdays. Each time book club comes along I think, why do I plan these on Thursday and how will I ever make it? But once I'm there, those ladies having me laughing and feeling energized in less than 5 minutes!

We read Blessed Child, by Ted Dekker and Bill Bright. I loved this book and am both excited and worried about the fact that there is a sequel. I'm very excited that I'll get to find out what happens to my favorite characters, but wondering when I'm going to find time to read another book!

Next month we'll meet to discus Kidnapped, by Dee Henderson. I can't wait to see you girlies again!

I've Had It With Her

Hi guys,

It's me, Carly. Mom's not here right now. She said she's banned from the TV and computer until she finishes that dumb book she's been reading all week. I don't even know what banned means, but she said I'm banned from the flower beds, so I know it can't be good!

Speaking of my digging pleasure, I worked hard all day today to dig a big deep hole under a beautiful and wonderfully sweet smelling flower bush. It was a nice cool and cloudy spring day. I had the greatest time! Then I buried my favorite bone under it and rolled around on top of it to be sure I smelled like those pretty flowers and the nice cool dirt.

When mom came home tonight, she did the meanest thing ever! She figured out how I was getting through the fence around the flower beds and she roped it off! I did a whole lot of 4 letter barking, the whole time she was working but she just kept at it. I finally gave up and dug a hole under the house while she wasn't looking.

When is she going to give up and realize this is my yard and I'm smarter than she is? So, now I can't get to my bone and I'm pouting. She gave me a new one, but it's not the same.

When we came inside she had a great surprise for me. A new bag of food! My favorite day of the month is fresh food day. Mom usually tries to trick me and leaves the new bag of food in the garage until I run out of the old stale food. I'm a smart dog though. As soon as I see the bag in the garage, I refuse to eat the old food until she brings in the new bag. Doesn't she prefer fresh food?

Anyway, today she spent a long time stirring all the new and old food together, while I ran around barking and jumping up and down in delight. Then she gave me a scoop and I dove in!

But wait, it doesn't taste right.

Ick!

What is this new food?

Mom said it's senior food. Excuse me? Senior? I'm only going to be 9 next week. Mom says that means 63, but that's crazy! I don't feel a day over 5.

I made sure to spit every piece of that new dog food out on the floor and just eat my yummy normal food. But then I got hungry, and went back to eat the rest. So, Mom won. I'll admit it is at least fresh, but I'm not happy about this!

Nope, I don't know what banned means, but I know Mom needs to go to time-out. She's been mean all afternoon!

This will be short because I got home so late, but I wanted to show you how much we really do love spring in our new backyard. Now I have a game to watch, 2/3 of my book left to read for book club on Thursday, tons of pictures to edit from a baby shower today and at some point, sleep. I'll be back tomorrow!

It's Totally Worth It

I hope you all had a great Easter. I love spring! My backyard is full of all these lovelies. God has given me flowers every day for a few weeks now and that makes me happier than you can imagine!

I'll admit I stand under this tree and just happily sniff for hours several minutes as soon as I get home from work. Really, all of San Antonio smells like this. I have no idea what it's called, (don't roll your eyes at me Melissa), but I feel certain Heaven smells just like it.

But the pollen that goes along with these beauties is the reason for my sneezing, coughing and crying (well in the right eye only of course). And Carly has carried no less than 352 pounds of this stuff in the house. I'm thinking of installing a shower at the back door to rinse her off before she's allowed back inside.

But it's absolutely beautiful out there, so it's totally worth it.

Who I Am

Most people in real life don't call me KK. (That would probably be weird.) But my nieces and nephew (and family in front of the kids) do. It all started with this little guy. When I moved here, my nephew was just starting to talk. When he would try to say "Aunt Kim", it sounded like KK. His sister thought it was funny and they have both called me KK ever since. My brand new niece won't have a choice, but she doesn't seem to mind so far (as long as the Zac Brown Band is playing she'll agree to anything).

As you can see he's all grown up now (or so he thinks). This weekend he came over with his dad to help around the house. How cute is he in his Lowe's gear? He was so proud of the kaleidoscope he made. Oh, and do you see his shirt? It says, "Will Trade Sister for Tractor." Oh yes he will!

He was "working" hard on the wii fit while his dad painted. By the way, his wii fit age is 20. The thought of that made me want to sit down and cry. I love 5, can we just keep you 5 for a little longer, please???

Yesterday he came over to help his dad with my yard. I don't have a lawn mower yet nor do I have a large enough vehicle to bring one home. My brother knocked the weeds down, while my nephew worked hard "mowing" the entire front yard.

He took his work very seriously. He even stopped to tell me about safety and that he'd be back to work on it some more another day. He pulled weeds and threw away trash. I didn't get a picture, but he even got to climb up the ladder to inspect the gutters for me. I'm certain I'll be paying him to mow the lawn before we know it!

My niece was busy this weekend, but I did snap a few pics of her choir concert. They also sang in big church and did a great job!

Thanks guys for all the help! Any weekend I get to spend with them is a good weekend indeed.
